This past weekend, the 35 Select Soccer Club delivered a dominant and memorable performance at the Scheels Shakopee Cup in Minnesota. All four teams — 14U Boys, 15U Girls, 16U Boys, and 17U Girls — competed with heart, skill, and determination, producing standout results that reflect the club’s growing strength and culture of excellence.

The weekend began with the 14U Boys , who put together a strong showing despite falling just short of the semifinals. Finishing with a 2-1 record, an even goal differential, and one clean sheet, the boys demonstrated remarkable resilience. After an early loss, they bounced back impressively and stayed in contention until the final whistle of their last group game. They played high-quality soccer that turned heads across the tournament. Head Coach Blake Kane and the entire squad can be extremely proud of how they represented 35 Select.

The real fireworks came from the club’s older teams, all of whom claimed championship titles in thrilling fashion.

The 16U Boys went a perfect 4-0, posted a +5 goal differential, and earned one shutout on their way to becoming Scheels Shakopee Cup Champions. They displayed relentless intensity and commitment, defeating several strong opponents throughout the weekend. The final proved unforgettable: after a scoreless regulation and double overtime, the match went to penalties. Goalkeeper Brendan Van Gelder made a crucial save, setting the stage for Braden Paske to slot home the winning fifth penalty kick. It was a true team victory powered by dedication from every player. Congratulations to Coach Nicky Vazquez and the entire 16U Boys roster on this hard-earned title!

The 17U Girls also rose to the occasion, finishing as Scheels Shakopee Cup Champions with a 3-1 record, +4 goal differential, and two shutouts. After suffering their only loss of the tournament earlier in the event, the girls showed championship character by avenging that defeat in the final. Trailing late, they mounted a comeback and secured the victory with a dramatic winning goal in the final minute of double overtime. Morgan Zimanski delivered a pinpoint 30-yard free kick, and Addy Elmhorst rose to head it home. This group has shown tremendous potential all season, and their ability to deliver under pressure signals they are ready for even bigger things. Outstanding work by Coach Cory Wagner and the 17U Girls!

Meanwhile, the 15U Girls put on a goal-scoring clinic, cruising to the Scheels Shakopee Cup Championship with three wins, an astonishing +21 goal differential, and two shutouts. From the opening match to the final whistle, the team unleashed their potential and showcased remarkable individual and collective growth since the season began in December. Their attacking play and defensive solidity were on full display all weekend. A huge congratulations to Coach Grace Loffler and the entire 15U Girls squad for this impressive triumph!

From the competitive fire of the 14U Boys to the championship runs by the three older teams, the weekend was a resounding success for 35 Select Soccer Club. These results highlight not only tactical growth and technical ability but also the character, resilience, and team-first mentality that define the club.

Congratulations to all the players, coaches, families, and supporters who made this memorable weekend possible. The future looks incredibly bright for 35 Select!

35 Select Soccer is proud to announce its full coaching and administrative staff for the 2026 season. These appointments join Coaching & Executive Director Aaron Fenton in leading the club’s expanding competitive teams and player-development programs.

For the 2026 season , 35 Select Soccer will field four Select teams and offer additional training opportunities for players across Southern Minnesota , including the Junior Academy , Goalkeeper Academy , and Summer Camps .

Our staff brings deep experience, strong leadership, and a shared commitment to developing high-character, high-performing athletes.

Update on US Youth Soccer Age Group Changes

Important news for our soccer families! US Youth Soccer, AYSO, and US Club Soccer have announced that beginning in August, with the 2026–27 season, all youth programs will transition to a seasonal age group calendar running August 1–July 31.

This change brings player age groups back in line with school-grade classmates—similar to the pre-2016 system—making it easier for kids to play with their friends and creating a more inclusive, development-friendly environment. The decision follows extensive national feedback and data review.

What You Need to Know

No changes will occur for the 2025–26 Spring Summer season.
Players may continue to “play up” if appropriate for their development.

Get ready for an action-packed 2026 season with 35 Select Soccer! We're excited to offer our talented soccer athletes great opportunities to shine both on and off the field.

35 Select to Field Four Dynamic Teams

This season, 35 Select Soccer will field four competitive teams focused on fostering growth, development, and a love for the game, preparing players for premier-level competition. Here’s our 2026 Teams:

Girls Teams :
17U (2009 & 2010 birth years)
15U (2011 & 2012 birth years)
Boys Teams :
16U (2010 & 2011 birth years)
14U (2012 & 2013 birth years)

Training and Competition Schedule

Our select level showcase teams will kick off training in late November or early December 2025, primarily at Shattuck-St. Mary’s School in Faribault, with additional locations possible. Our intensive curriculum is designed to elevate players’ skills and prepare them for high-level competition. Here’s what’s planned:

Winter Games : From January to March 2026, our teams will face top clubs in full 11v11 matches, offering year-round opportunities to grow as players.
National Showcase : Over Presidents’ Day weekend in February 2026, all teams will compete in a prestigious national-level showcase (location TBD), introducing players to college soccer recruitment and boosting their visibility.
Regional Tournament : In early April 2026, teams will take on elite competition at a top-tier regional tournament, further enhancing college recruitment exposure.
Local Tournaments : As we transition to outdoor play, training will shift to natural fields at Webster FC and Northfields Spring Creek Complex. Teams will compete in Minnesota-based tournaments, keeping competition close to home while some players may also participate with their local clubs.
